Helping Others Achieve was founded by Wanda Hobson, a long-time childcare professional with more than 21 years of experience serving children and families facing significant educational, behavioral, and social challenges. Through decades of hands-on work in early care settings, Hobson has witnessed the growing need for safe, structured, and affordable after-school environments—particularly for children who have aged out of voucher-supported childcare programs but are still too young to be left unsupervised during the critical after-school hours.
The organization was incorporated on February 9, 2020, and granted federal tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on July 7, 2022. Helping Others Achieve is governed by a committed board of directors with diverse professional expertise spanning early childhood education, mental health services, nursing, youth development, and arts education.
In addition to Hobson’s extensive background in childcare and program management, the board includes Jamil Moravian, who brings professional experience in early childhood education, mental health services, and nursing. Moravian’s multidisciplinary background strengthens the organization’s capacity to support children’s academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs while ensuring programs are developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed. The board also includes LaToya Graves, an experienced art educator whose expertise informs the organization’s creative enrichment and arts-based entrepreneurship initiatives, including its T-shirt design and youth business programming.
Together, the board provides strategic oversight and guidance to ensure that Helping Others Achieve delivers high-quality, responsive programming rooted in best practices and community needs. Helping Others Achieve exists to provide high-quality tutoring and homework support; offer a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for children after school; support working parents by reducing childcare barriers; address behavioral, social, and emotional challenges through positive youth development; and help children build confidence, social skills, and academic motivation. The organization is deeply committed to ensuring that every child—regardless of income, family structure, or educational need—has access to a supportive after-school experience that promotes growth, resilience, and long-term success.
